I am thrilled to announce that my story Home Affairs was nominated for a Pushcart Prize, the national short story competition. The Pushcart Prize is the most difficult short story prize to win, so it’s a real honor. I’m psyched!
Home Affairs was featured in the September/October issue of World Literature Today.
The story follows a father and son as they attempt to navigate the labyrinth of the immigration system in South Africa. It is based on my experiences working and living in Cape Town. One of the themes is the stereotypes of Nigerians in South Africa — the same such stereotypes that appear in the film District 9.
