French father-son team Jacques and Olivier Treiner premiered a new translation of their prize-winning play Fission at the Art of Science Reading Series. Staged in an airy hall of the CUNY Graduate Center, the play depicts the race to create an atomic bomb on both sides of the Atlantic. Fission is as much a celebration of scientific imagination as it is an examination of the ethical issues of one of the most significant inventions of the twentieth century.

Rwanda is a deeply moving track that captures, in four tightly controlled minutes, the complexity of reconciliation after genocide. The song was released by Cape Town-based duo Soulfire on their debut album. Featuring sparse vocals, acoustic guitars, and djembe drum, Rwanda was penned by songwriter Duncan Breen after a visit to the Great Lakes region of central Africa.

Our second major book review will cover a collection of short stories by Miljenko Jergovic, a Bosnian born author and poet. Translated by Stela Tomasevic, the stories are set during the Balkan conflict and garnered Jergovic the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Prize.
